Can I add my spouse or employees to my policy?
No, MMIP offers an individual massage therapist insurance policy and each licensed practitioner is responsible for his or her own policy.
Why can't this policy be put in my business's name?
This is an individual massage liability insurance policy, it must be in the practitioner's name but as a sole proprietor your business name is also covered. If you have a corporation or partnership, your business may be added as an additional insured.
What does this policy not cover?
The MMIP policy does not cover invasive practices including acupuncture, or colonic educators. MMIP does not cover herbal counseling. This policy does not cover you for the use of T-bars or for charges of sexual harassment or transmission of HIV or a STD.
What do I do if I have a claim?
To place a claim, call MMIP at 1-800-222-1110 to report the event as soon as possible. We will immediately mail you a claim form.
After I have stopped practicing, am I still covered?
As long as your policy was in effect at the time of the incident, you are covered under our policy. You must report a professional liability claim or product liability claim within 2 years after your policy expires.
If I lose my confirmation of coverage, what do I do?
If you misplace your confirmation of coverage, just call us and we will be able to mail you a copy, free of charge. Your confirmation of coverage is your proof that you have MMIP liability coverage. We urge our clients to keep their confirmation of coverage in a secure place with their other important documents.
Can I ever cancel my policy and get a refund?
As you are immediately enrolled into the MMIP system and your certificate is e-mailed to you immediately, there will be no refunds from our policy.
What is your privacy policy?
Massage Magazine Insurance Plus is sensitive to the privacy interests of clients and believes that the protection of those interests is a significant responsibility. In acknowledgment of its obligations, MMIP has adopted the following Privacy Policy applicable to information about consumers that it acquires in the course of its business:
1. Acquisition of Information. We do not acquire any more information about our clients than is required by law or is otherwise necessary to provide a high level of service.
2. Our Employees and Privacy. We train our employees about the importance of privacy. We give access to information about consumers only to those employees who require it to perform their jobs effectively.
3. Security Measures. We make access to privacy-sensitive information consistent with legal requirements, subject to rigorous technological controls, and the demands of customer service.
4. Disclosure to Third Parties. We will provide individually-identifiable information about consumers to third parties only if we are compelled to do so by order of a legal authority, we have the express consent of the consumer, or it is necessary to provide services to our clients.
Additional FAQ
How soon will the policy take effect?
The Policy goes into effect immediately. If you apply online or by phone, you will be emailed your certificate of insurance within minutes of completing the application.
This is a national policy, so it follows you wherever you go as long as you are in the United States. This includes Hawaii, Alaska and US Territories such as Puerto Rico.
What is an additional insured?
Sometimes your employer or landlord will require you to add them as an additional insured. Adding additional insured gives that person or entity legal claim on benefits paid under the General Liability portion of the policy to the extent they suffer a loss.
Do I have to pay to add my employer as an additional Insured?
Yes, the cost is $10 per additional insured.
Does this policy cover me as an instructor?
Yes. As long as the modality that you teach is covered under our policy, the teaching of that modality is also covered.
Is there a limit on class size?
No, there is no limit on class size or the number of hours you teach.
Is there an additional charge for more than one Modality?
No, the one policy covers more than 350 modalities which are listed here. You do not need to purchase additional policies or add-ons for additional modalities.
What do I do if I don’t see my modality listed?
Call us at 800-222-1110. We will send information about your modality to our underwriters and they will let us know if we are able to cover it. If so, we will add it to the list of modalities on our website.
