Geriatric massage is a method of using gentle massage therapy applied to senior or elderly clients. Techniques are designed to relax body tension and quiet the mind, and are focused and specific to addressing individuals with medical conditions. The goal is to provide one-to-one attention to the client, offer tactile and sensory stimulation, create an opportunity for social interaction, and give comfort, not rehabilitation. This type of massage may also help with challenging behaviors, such as restlessness, wandering and agitation.
