Missouri Massage Therapy Insurance
Missouri Massage Liability Insurance Guidelines
When it comes to health, many practitioners often think of insurance as a safety net reserved for medical doctors or surgeons. However, massage therapists, with their hands-on approach to healing, equally require this protective shield. Given the intimate nature of massage therapy, practitioners are susceptible to potential legal claims, even when their intentions are purely therapeutic. In a world where legal actions are becoming more frequent, having insurance isn’t just a formality—it’s a necessity.
In Missouri, the Board of Registration of Massage Therapy has delineated clear guidelines for those aspiring to become licensed massage therapists. These guidelines ensure that therapists not only possess the necessary skills but also maintain the highest ethical standards. To be eligible for a license in Missouri, applicants must:
- Adhere to the state's educational requirements, completing at least 500 hours of training.
- Successfully passed the MBLEx written examination.
- Stay updated with the field by completing 12 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every two years.
- $125 nonrefundable application fee
- $75 provisional license application fee
- $50 provisional license renewal fee
- $50 business license fee
Missouri requires massage therapists to carry liability insurance. The state requires a minimum level of coverage, which is:
- $25,000 per person for bodily injury
- $50,000 per accident for bodily injury
- $25,000 per accident for property
Massage therapists are required to have a $1 million general liability insurance policy. They must also maintain current general liability insurance and provide proof of coverage upon request. This insurance serves as a protective barrier, shielding therapists from potential financial setbacks if unforeseen incidents occur during sessions.
To become a licensed massage therapist in Missouri, you must also complete at least 500 hours of supervised classroom and clinical instruction from an accredited school. The curriculum must include:
- 300 hours of massage theory and practice techniques
- 100 hours of human anatomy and physiology
- 50 hours of business practice, ethics, massage law, and hygiene
- 50 hours of ancillary therapies, such as CPR and first aid
You can complete your training through a school-based program or a board-approved apprenticeship program.
Missouri also offers an online application process for immediate approval, streamlining the licensing procedure for aspiring therapists.
Becoming a licensed massage therapist in Missouri might seem rigorous, but it mirrors the state's commitment to ensuring its therapists are adept, principled, and safeguarded. The obligatory massage liability insurance in Missouri provides both therapists and their clients with a sense of security, emphasizing the presence of a robust safety net. Clients can rest easy, knowing their therapist is both licensed and insured, allowing them to fully immerse in the therapeutic experience.
