Get More Covered Modalities Under One All-Inclusive Massage Insurance Plan
With Massage Magazine Insurance Plus, our entire philosophy revolves around making massage insurance streamlined, easy to access, and something that provides tangible benefits from day one. A huge plus to being all-inclusive is that more modalities are covered under a single plan. No more guessing what core modalities are covered or digging through the fine print of your policy to see if you have to pay extra for your style of massage.
Check out our comprehensive list below that currently sits at more than 500 covered massage and wellness modalities. This means our members have more choices and more freedom in their day-to-day practice.
How Many Modalities Are Covered Under A Massage Insurance Plan?
If you’re comparing your options for massage insurance—kudos! This is a great step toward making sure you’re getting a great policy at a great price. We even make it easy to see different plans side-by-side with our handy massage insurance comparison page. One thing you’ll notice as you start perusing plans is that what’s covered varies greatly from one plan to the next. Worse, some plans (not ours!) make it downright difficult to see what’s covered before filling out a long questionnaire.
Even after you’ve gone through a seemingly endless series of questions, you may find that what’s covered is actually only a “core” group of modalities. This is unfortunately a fairly common practice where a small handful of common modalities are covered under the plan. You may be able to add something outside of those core modalities to your policy for an additional fee or it may just not be covered.
We at MMIP went in an entirely new direction. We wanted to make it super easy to see everything that’s covered, how much it costs, the benefits you get, and so much more right from our site—no insurance questionnaires ever! Transparency starts with making your plan accessible from the get-go. That’s why we showcase more than 500 different massage and wellness modalities that are all covered automatically from the moment you sign up. You can browse through the covered services below to get a better feel for the diversity of options you’ll have.
Best Modalities for Massage Therapists to Use
Without a doubt, there are several common modalities that just about every therapist knows and employs on the reg in their practice. Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, and reflexology are all fairly common massage types, but the list absolutely abounds with others that may be less common but are still incredibly beneficial in modern massage.
A few of the many different massage modalities a therapist may employ on a daily basis include:
- Deep tissue - employing slow strokes with moderate pressure, a therapist is targeting the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Great for stress relief and therapy after a sports-related injury.
- Swedish - easily one of the most popular forms of massage, Swedish massage seeks to relax muscles with a set pattern of pressure and strokes. Increasing blood flow and releasing tension are the main aspects of this popular massage modality.
- Hot stone - heated stones placed by skilled therapists at specific locations help promote deep muscle relaxation. Hot stone is often used in conjunction with other therapies to increase circulation and relaxation.
- Reflexology - an ancient technique of applying specific pressure to specific areas of the feet, which connect to other areas of the body. Reflexology can be used to promote a wide range of beneficial results.
- Reiki - another ancient practice, energy work involves generating ki and sharing it in a helpful way with a client. Reiki has been shown to promote a variety of benefits such as faster recovery times and a more positive outlook.
- Aromatherapy - utilizing essential oils in massage therapy is often a mainstay of any session. Different oils can garner different results, which is why this therapy is often used in conjunction with a hands-on modality.
- Myofascial Release - relaxing muscles, improving blood flow and circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex are all hallmarks of a good myofascial release session.
- Sports massage - firm pressure that focuses on muscles and connective tissue can help athletes recover faster after intense training and gameplay and also help with after-injury treatment.
Having more modalities covered under one all-inclusive massage insurance plan gives therapists the ultimate level of choice in what therapies would work best with a given client. As each client who walks through the doors of your massage office is unique, every therapy session is going to be unique to meet individual needs.
Modality Specializations in Massage Therapy
Whether you offer geriatric massage, pregnancy massage, oncology massage, or any number of what may be considered specializations in massage therapy, we believe you should still get the same great coverage at the same great rate. We understand that even specialized therapists are often employing more than one modality in a single session.
That’s why it's so important to make sure you’re covered for more techniques all under one broad sweeping massage insurance plan. Applying the right massage modality at the right time can make all the difference to a client who truly needs the benefits your therapy can provide.
Ramping Up The Value For Your Massage Practice
Getting the best value in massage insurance means having a policy that works as hard as you do. With a tailored massage insurance policy that covers more modalities than ever, you can be sure that the full weight of your policy stands behind every session you undertake.
Covering hundreds of modalities all at once is just the start. The coverage that applies to these modalities is worth noting. Millions of dollars in liability protection are coupled with additional safeguards to give your career in massage a safety net against any what-ifs that might pop up.
Not stopping there, our policies provide a full suite of member benefits that you can start using from the moment you sign up, dedicated support every step of the way, and a streamlined online portal to make it easy to access all of your plan documents all in one place. Getting the best value for massage insurance is all about more coverage, more benefits, and more transparency at a single, flat rate.
Do You Really Need Massage Insurance?
You might be wondering whether you really need insurance as a massage therapist. While many state boards require insurance to maintain a massage license, there are quite a few that don’t have this requirement (make sure you understand your state board’s regulations where you practice). True, you can take a gamble and practice without insurance, but after so many hours of training and work involved in building a successful practice, this is indeed a huge gamble with your career. All it takes is one small slip and your career and even your personal finances could be at risk.
Our protection plan for massage therapists includes provisions both for the cost of the claim and for any legal defense fees that might be necessary as a result. Accidents are everywhere and even more so in a profession that’s literally hands-on like massage and bodywork. Even if you are the most careful and experienced massage professional in the world, you could still find yourself facing an incident that was completely out of your control.
For example, general liability insurance covers accidents like slips and falls. A client walking into your session who slips and falls on a freshly mopped floor, for example, could be all it takes to face a lawsuit. Rather than taking a chance, for generally less than a monthly streaming service subscription you’ll be getting millions of dollars of liability protection, a suite of additional protections, member benefits, and an entire team of insurance professionals here to support you every step of your career.
Modalities FAQs
Not at all. We offer coverage for over 450 unique modalities. The best part is these are included in your massage insurance policy. No need to pay for multiple policies to be covered. At Massage Magazine Insurance Plus, we don’t punish you for having multiple areas of expertise.
When you sign up for your massage insurance policy, there is no need to go through an endless cycle of informing us about your modalities. We like to keep things simple, honest, and dependable. You can count on us to cover the services you offer in a single, comprehensive policy. You can put your mind at ease knowing you’re covered with our massage therapy insurance policy. Most definitely. If you spread your talents between multiple businesses, we make adding them to your policy easy and affordable. You have a couple of options for adding other businesses to your massage insurance.
First, you can add one or two additional businesses for $10 for one-year terms or $15.95 for two-year terms. This is an excellent option if you go between a few different businesses.
Second, you can choose the unlimited additional businesses option for $30 for one year. This option is perfect for those bodywork professionals who like to travel around a good bit. With the unlimited additional businesses option, it doesn’t matter if you have three other workplaces or 25.
We like to keep things simple and affordable for our policyholders. For the same excellent coverage, we offer a range of plans based on how you’ll use your insurance.
Professional rate: We offer professional rates for one- or two-year terms. The one-year policy term is as low as $169, while the two-year plan is as low as $299.
Part-time rate: If massage or bodywork is just a part-time gig, you’ll pay only $159 for a year of coverage.
With over 450 modalities, it can be easy to miss one or get overwhelmed by the information. If you don’t see your area of expertise, there is no need to panic. It’s possible that we can still offer you coverage. In many cases, the modality is categorized under another area in the list of what’s covered. If you don’t see your particular modality on our list above, feel free to give one of our team members a call at 888-994-8563.
When you speak with one of our representatives, we can let you know exactly what we offer. There is always the possibility that we will still offer coverage even if your modality is not listed. We’ll do everything that we can to help you get the coverage you need.
Let’s be honest; calling your insurance agent every time you start on a new skill or modality would be exhausting. We encourage our policyholders to constantly better themselves and develop new methods of helping their clients. There’s no need to give us a call with each new skill you develop.
We automatically include coverage on the over 450 modalities above, so there is no need to sweat it if you add a new skill to your resume. While other insurance providers would make you pay additional fees for adding a modality to your services, we think that’s silly. We keep it simple with our policyholders and include the coverage from the beginning.
Yes. Massage Magazine Insurance Plus offers coverage no matter what state you live in. Our aim is to provide comprehensive massage and bodywork insurance to professionals from all over the country. Your coverage even travels from state to state. However, if you move, we do ask that you let us know.
If you move to a new state, there may be state-specific requirements for practicing massage or bodywork. Of course, each state is different and may have varying levels of practicing requirements. Be certain to do your research on your new home to ensure you meet the qualifications.
There is no exact answer. When you shop for a massage therapist insurance policy, you will want to do your research. Because a liability claim can have a wide range of costs, the coverage amount you need has to provide protection for an equally large field. For many bodywork professionals, a policy offers at least $1 million. However, others may recommend at least $2 million worth of protection.
MMIP takes it a step beyond what most companies offer. Our massage therapists insurance policy offers up to $2 million per occurrence and an annual maximum of $3 million. This generous coverage limit protects you from multiple claims within a year. Our coverage gives you complete peace of mind knowing that you don’t have to sweat your coverage limit.
One of the benefits of choosing us for your massage insurance is our generous coverage limits. We go above and beyond the standard for other massage insurance providers, so our policyholders have total assurance in their protection.
Our policy includes up to $2 million per occurrence for professional and general liability claims with an annual aggregate (maximum) of $3 million. For product liability claims, we cover up to $2 million annually. On top of that, we help protect you from identity theft. You can have complete confidence that your massage insurance plan has adequate coverage for your needs.
From the day you sign up, you’re covered for the entire length of your term. We don’t prorate your insurance policy, so you’ll have the entire term of your coverage. We offer plans for one-year and two-year terms to help meet you where you are. If you like to take things one day at a time, the one-year option might be best for you. However, if you’re the type of person who plans next year’s vacation while on this year’s vacation, the two-year option might be perfect for you.
No matter which insurance plan you choose, you can be confident that you’re covered for the entire term. If you’re ready to take the next step in your career, get massage insurance today. Signing up only takes a few minutes, and your coverage starts immediately. The best way to get a discounted rate on massage therapy insurance is to select the two-year option when registering. While the professional rate for one year is $169, the two-year option is only $299. Choosing this option saves you $39 just for planning ahead.
As a budding massage professional, you will likely have many hours of supervised massage application on real clients. While performing under a professional, you could still be held liable if you make a mistake. This means that a client could file a liability lawsuit if your error causes them bodily harm or distress. While you’re still learning the basics of massage, you will need to be protected should you make a major mistake.
Additionally, many massage therapy schools require their students to be insured to enroll. That’s one reason we offer a student rate for up-and-coming massage therapists. For just $49, you can have access to the same incredible coverage as our professional massage therapy insurance policyholders.
Sometimes, life takes you on a new adventure. When you move to a new city or state, you’ll want to know that your insurance policy will go with you. The best part of being an MMIP member is that you're covered no matter where you travel. If you need to move to a different city or state, your coverage goes with you. There’s no need to purchase a new policy or start all over with your coverage. However, we recommend checking the state’s licensing requirements for your modality to make sure you are ready to practice safely and legally.
Yes, we offer monthly payment options via PayPal’s Pay Monthly credit program. While this is convenient, we advise paying in full upfront to avoid credit checks. PayPal will divide your total policy cost and a small service fee into monthly installments. Be aware that a credit check is required, and there’s no interest if paid off within six months. After six months, interest may apply.
Yes, you are covered for services at both locations. Our policy protects you whether you’re working in your office or at a client’s home. As long as you're following local or state laws, your coverage applies across all 50 states.
Yes! You can buy a policy now and choose a start date within the next three months. For instance, if you purchase on February 1 but want coverage to begin on March 23, simply choose March 23 as your start date during checkout.
You can access your certificate of insurance by logging into your online member portal and selecting the "Certificate of Insurance" option. If you need assistance, give us a call and we’ll email it to you.
Filing a claim is easy! Contact our Operations Team at sarasota.bsd.operations@ajg.com to get started. They’ll verify your coverage and ask you to complete a Claim Summary Form. Depending on the situation, they may also request additional documentation. We’ll guide you through the next steps.
The difference is based on the number of hours you work with clients each week. If you work 10 or fewer hours, a part-time policy is right for you. If you work more than 10 hours weekly, you'll need a full-time policy. Business tasks like marketing and admin work don't count toward these hours, and both policies offer the same coverage limits.
To add an additional insured, contact us by phone at 866-455-5040.
