What is Professional Liability Insurance?
Professional liability insurance, also known as malpractice insurance, is the second key component to a comprehensive massage malpractice insurance policy. If someone claims an injury was incurred as a direct result of your lack of competence or skill as a professional massage therapist, having this type of insurance coverage will protect you. Malpractice insurance is highly relevant to any healthcare provider.
What is General Liability Insurance?
General liability insurance, also known as “trip and fall” insurance, will protect you in the event that a client trips and falls and is injured as a result. This type of coverage is critical to any business that allows clients onto a property, and it is one of three essential components of a good LMT insurance policy.
Per occurrence means the maximum amount of coverage available to you for each individual incident resulting in a claim. MMIP offers $2 million of liability coverage per occurrence, or per single claim. Individual annual aggregate is the maximum amount of coverage available to you for all incidents that occur during the course of a policy year. MMIP offers an individual annual aggregate of $3 million. In other words, you have $3 million of liability coverage available to you per year.
What is Product Liability Insurance?
The product liability aspect of insurance is a key feature for many professions, and certainly, massage therapy is no exception.
For massage, product liability insurance is even more relevant, as many massage products contact the client’s skin directly. This direct contact may sometimes cause issues for some client’s, such as rashes or other adverse reactions. From the overall effectiveness of any company’s quality control department to the unpredictable allergies some people have or end up developing, the potential for a lawsuit exists.
A client may not know of any existing skin sensitivity, in which case both the client and the therapist may be unpleasantly surprised by a bad reaction. In this example, through no fault of the massage therapist or the client, a product issue can provide fertile ground for a legal claim.
Product liability insurance provides an extra measure of coverage for massage therapists and the best programs will include product liability coverage at no extra charge. Insurance is something a person wants to have and hopes never to use. Still, whether it’s for a car, for a business, or for a massage therapist, liability insurance offers a needed buffer of protection from the unexpected and sometimes unpleasant incidents in life.
What is Rental Damage Insurance?
Rental premises liability insurance relates specifically to any place that you rent or lease for your practice. This type of coverage applies when damage occurs to the facility due to some negligence on your part to the rental space – from the drywall in. Contents of a rental location are not covered within this type of insurance.
Occurrence Form Policy
Occurrence Form Policy
Any claim filed after the policy expires will still be covered, as long as the incident took place while the policy was active.
Occurrence Form policies only need to be active when the incident in question occurs to trigger coverage, regardless of when it’s reported. In other words, any claim filed after an occurrence policy expires will still be covered, as long as the incident took place during the policy term.

Claims Made Policy
Claims-Made policies must be active when the claim is reported in order to trigger coverage. In other words, any claim filed after a claims-made policy expires will not be covered, even if the incident in question took place while the policy was active.
Individual Annual Aggregate
Individual Annual Aggregate
Your policy will protect you up to the amount listed on your policy. Every insured person will have their own coverage, and the claims that others make will not affect their individual coverage amount available.

Shared Annual Aggregate
Each individual policy holder may not have the coverage that they need at a specific time. When the group shared limit is reached for the policy year, anyone who files a claim afterwards will not be covered under their individual limits.
