Our Beauty Insurance Plans Provide Coverage Under the Following Areas:
General Liability Insurance: This is also known as “slip and fall” insurance because that’s a common type of accident that can cause a claim. When you open your doors and start receiving clients, you’re also opening yourself up to general liability. Coverage here applies to injuries or property damage to third-party individuals in and around your place of business. A client tripping over a loose front door mat and injuring themselves is an example of an event that would fall under this coverage type.
Rental Damage Coverage: Many beauty professionals rent space in order to provide their sessions to clients. All it can take is a simple misstep from a client or other visitor to your space and you’re suddenly facing damages to your rental premises. When this occurs, our protection plan provides all the way up to $150,000 to help cover the costs of repairs.
Professional Liability Insurance: Also called “malpractice coverage” this protection is for the actual services you provide during a session. If a client reports an injury or somehow has their property damaged during treatment, they may seek legal action to get compensation. These types of claims would fall under professional liability.
Stolen/Damaged Equipment Protection: You rely on your equipment in order to provide a session so a robbery-by-force can be both a harrowing experience and also costly having to replace what was taken. That’s why our plan includes up to $2,000 to cover the costs of replacement with a low $250 deductible.
Product Liability Insurance: To provide a great session for your clients, you’ll likely use a number of different instruments and tools. When equipment malfunctions, or a client has a bad reaction to something in one of the products you used, they may require medical attention. Afterwards, the client may demand you pay for all their costs since it was your product that caused their injury. Claims like this would fall under product liability coverage.
Identity Protection Plan: Today’s beauty professionals are exposed more than ever to the threat of a cyber incident stealing their personal data. If this occurs, our members get all the way up to $25,000 in identity restoration services.
Personal Injury & Advertising Coverage: This coverage can provide financial assistance to beauty professionals if they become legally obligated to pay damages that arise from claims related to false advertising, libel or slander or copyright infringement. For example, if a MT's marketing materials inadvertently included false statements that damage another person's reputation, this coverage can help with legal and financial fallouts.
Full Suite Protection: It’s the full suite of protections offered in our plans that provides the best level of security possible from all the types of risks facing today’s beauty professionals. We’ve designed our plans to be an effective safeguard so that our members can focus on providing great treatments to clients, rather than what their insurance covers.

What is beauty liability insurance?
Beauty liability insurance refers to a specialized type of insurance coverage designed for professionals in the beauty industry. This insurance helps protect these professionals from potential liabilities and risks associated with their services.
Why do I need beauty liability insurance?
Professional Beauty liability insurance is more than just a safety net; it's a cornerstone of a responsible beauty business. While some states mandate certain insurances, the benefits extend beyond legal compliance. Having this insurance not only shields you from potentially expensive lawsuits and covers unforeseen accidents but also bolsters your professional credibility.
Many clients view insurance as a mark of professionalism, and landlords often require it in lease agreements. In essence, for peace of mind and to safeguard both your financial and professional standing, beauty liability insurance is highly recommended. Before committing, consult with an insurance expert to tailor coverage to your needs.

Professional Beauty Insurance Frequently Asked Questions
What does this insurance cover?
Our professional beauty insurance is designed to actively protect professionals from the many different forms of risks they’ll face every day in the industry. This includes:
- General liability - covers policyholders from third party claims relating to an injury and/or property damage. This type of coverage is deliberately broad (hence, “general”) to cover the many different types of accidents that can happen. A new client tripping over your front door mat can be all it takes to suddenly be facing a general liability claim against you.
- Professional liability - covers the policyholder from claims related to malpractice, or the actual services they were performing when the injury and/or property damage occurs.
- Product liability - covers the policyholder from claims relating to a client having an adverse reaction experienced because of a product used during the session.
- Rental Damage liability - This coverage provides added protection to the space that you are practicing in for damage caused by you or one of your customers. Massage Magazine Insurance Plus is one of the few companies that includes this coverage at no extra charge.
- Stolen Equipment - coverage designed
to protect the policyholder from equipment theft
or damage due to fire, water, etc.; covers the
cost of replacing the stolen or damaged piece of
equipment used in one’s business, but does not
cover damages due to wear and tear or misuse.
- ID Protection - coverage that
reimburses the insured for expenses arising from
How does having insurance benefit my business's reputation?
Carrying insurance not only provides financial protection but also signals to clients that you prioritize their safety and operate a responsible, professional business.
How quickly can I file a claim and expect a response?
Our streamlined claims process ensures swift responses. Once a claim is filed, our dedicated team reviews it promptly, ensuring timely resolutions.
Can I file a claim after my policy expires?
With MMIP, yes you can. Some policies fall under a claims made policy but ours use the industry-preferred type which is occurrence form. Claims made policies are clear cut - you have to file a claim while the policy is still active in order to be considered. If you have a session on the last day of your policy, but a claim comes days later, you simply wouldn’t be able to file for this claim.
Occurrence form coverage takes a more realistic approach and says you can still file a claim after the policy expires as long as the claim event happened during the active term. This important distinction can mean the difference between full coverage and no coverage at all so always make sure your policy uses occurrence form.
Can I add additional insureds to my policy?
Absolutely. There are many occasions where an additional insured is needed on a policy so we make it easy to add as many additional insureds as is needed. As an example, being added as an additional insured may be required by landlords that don’t want to be held liable for something arising from the activities of their tenants.
Does beauty insurance cover slip and fall lawsuits?
Slip and fall accidents are unfortunately an all too common type of claim that can happen to anyone who opens their doors for business. General liability coverage is also called “slip and fall insurance” since this type of injury and ensuing claim event is a common category. If your client gets injured or has their property damaged while seeing you to receive services , they may decide to file suit against you to get restitution. With MMIP’s beauty liability insurance, you’d have all the way up to $3 million to cover both the costs of the general liability claim and any legal defense fees, if they’re necessary.
Does insurance have an hour qualification?
While some professional beauty insurance plans out there do require a certain level of hours of training and/or education, MMIP has no such requirement. We want our beauty insurance policies to be as accessible to professionals as possible, no matter where they find themselves in their careers.
How much does professional beauty insurance cost?
Beauty professionals can get our all-encompassing insurance policy tailored for your career at the low annual rate of just $169. Part-time policies began at $149.
Is liability insurance worth it?
This is a question we receive often, especially from first time teachers considering foregoing the cost of beauty insurance and just taking their chances. Our beauty insurance policy was tailored for health & wellness professionals who want the security of a solid plan safeguarding their practice in multiple disciplines love. At just $169 per year, or around $14 per month, each policyholder gets millions of dollars worth of insurance coverage types, additional protection mechanisms built-in, and a whole suite of awesome member benefits that are available to use immediately.
What's the process for renewing or updating my policy?
Renewing or updating your policy is simple with our user-friendly platform. Plus, our team sends timely reminders to ensure continuous and uninterrupted coverage.
I work for a beauty spa, why do I need my own insurance?
Beauty spas do usually carry some insurance for their employees, but this can be a small amount of coverage and commonly they’ll have shared annual aggregates. This means that the coverage amount can be depleted by other members in the group before you get a chance to use it. To get the peace of mind knowing you’re covered no matter what, and at just $169 per year, having your own beauty insurance policy is the way to go.
Am I covered internationally by my policy?
Your Massage Magazine Insurance Plus policy does not include coverage internationally. Currently, our policy covers you throughout the 50 United States.
Whether I practice in a spa or a client’s home does my policy protect me?
Your beauty insurance policy is flexible and travels with you. Whether you are providing massage services to clients in the comfort of their own homes or you are working at a local spa, you are protected.
The massage liability policy from Massage Magazine Insurance Plus provides peace of mind and the ability to grow your massage practice as much as you desire.
