Have Questions. We Have Answers
Is there an extra charge for practicing more than one modality?
No, a single MMIP policy covers more than 350 modalities, which are listed here. You do not need to purchase additional policies or add-ons.
How soon will my coverage take effect?
Your coverage with MMIP goes into effect immediately. If you apply online or by phone, you will be emailed your certificate of insurance within minutes of completing the application.
How do I add an additional insured to my policy?
You can add an additional insured to your policy at any time. Click here to request an additional insured to be added or call us.
After I have stopped practicing, am I still covered?
As long as your policy was in effect at the time of the incident, you are covered under our policy. MMIP offers occurrence form coverage, meaning you are still covered for claims filed after your policy expires, as long as the incident in question occurred during your policy term.
Let’s say your policy with MMIP expires on Jan. 31, for example, and you do not renew because you’re no longer in practice. You will still be covered for any claim filed after Jan. 31, as long as the incident happened when you were insured (before Jan. 31).
Does my policy cover injuries that my client sustained due to Myofascial Release?
Yes! Myofascial Release is one of the over 350 modalities covered under our massage liability insurance policy from Massage Magazine Insurance Plus. Such incidents would be covered under the professional liability piece of your policy, but you can also receive general liability and product liability with our policy.

Can I add other massage therapists to my massage insurance policy?
No, under our liability insurance policy we protect you as an individually licensed massage therapist. Each massage therapist is responsible for carrying his or her own policy coverage.
Why is a policy with an individual annual aggregate better than a shared annual aggregate?
With an individual aggregate based liability policy, like our massage liability policy, you don’t have to worry about reaching the maximum annual aggregate with a bunch of people you don’t know. Every insured massage therapist will have his or her own coverage. Any claims that other insured customers make will not affect your individual coverage amount remaining.
In a shared annual aggregate policy, you would be sharing the yearly limit for claims and may find yourself in a situation where you might not be covered under your policy after all. If the shared annual aggregate limit for the year is reached anyone in the group who files a claim after that point will not be covered under their individual coverage limits.
What is the difference between the types of liability coverage included in a massage liability policy?
Massage Magazine Insurance Plus offers coverage for all of the most important liability insurance types needed for massage therapists. Providing peace of mind and protection from covered losses. Our liability policies include:
- General Liability insurance (also known as trip and fall coverage) If a client trips leaving your massage space and sustains an injury you are protected under General Liability.
- Professional Liability insurance (also known as malpractice coverage) A massage client may have a minor back injury that they do not disclose to you. After your services, their injury may be worse and they file a claim. Professional Liability protects you in the event of these types of incidences.
- Product Liability insurance An unknown sensitivity to an ingredient in one of your massage lotions or oils may irritate your client’s skin. A claim like this would be protected under our Product Liability Insurance coverage that is included at no additional cost.
- Rental Premises Liability insurance. This coverage provides added protection to the space that you are practicing in for damage caused by you or one of your customers. Massage Magazine Insurance Plus is one of the few companies that includes this coverage at no extra charge.
Am I required by the state to get massage insurance?
Licensing and insurance requirements vary from state to state. Depending on your state, the total number of training hours, CEU’s, and prerequisites will determine your eligibility for licensure.
Even though it is highly recommended, only a few states require LMTs to carry liability insurance. View our guide to massage therapist license requirements by state.
Is Reiki covered under my massage insurance policy?
Yes, it’s covered! Reiki is a very beneficial practice and one that is now often combined with traditional massage. At Massage Magazine Insurance Plus, we understand that there is not just one type of massage or other healing practices.
Reiki is one of the over 350 healing practices and massage modalities covered by our professional insurance for massage therapists.
Are there different levels of massage therapy insurance coverage?
With our professional liability insurance for massage therapists, you don’t have to wonder if there is a better level of coverage available.
Our insurance policy, at one of the lowest prices compared to the competition, provides industry-leading coverage levels to provide you peace of mind and protection.
If a client falls off my massage table what does my policy cover?
This kind of incident is covered, up to $2 Million per occurrence, under your General Liability coverage from Massage Magazine Insurance Plus. The policy protects you against a legal claim filed and will cover medical bills for your client’s injuries.
Am I covered internationally by my policy?
Your Massage Magazine Insurance Plus policy does not include coverage internationally. Currently, our policy covers you throughout the 50 United States.
Whether I practice in a spa or a client’s home does my policy protect me?
