Our Spa Liability Insurance Limits
1 Additional Insured: $10 | Unlimited Additional Insureds: $30
Some spa insurance policies will offer different limits based on your full-time or part-time status. This would mean that if you are a part-time spa professional, you may have less coverage than a full-time one.
We don’t believe in offering different coverage limits so all our policies have the same limits. Full-time, part-time, or a student, all members enjoy the same great coverage. Our affordable insurance program prices are based on how you will use the coverage and decide to pay.
Professional Liability Insurance: Also known as "malpractice insurance" or "errors and omissions insurance," covers claims related to professional negligence, including instances like burns from hot stones or injuries during a deep tissue massage.
General Liability Insurance: Provides protection from claims that may not directly stem from your professional services. For example, if a client simply tripped and fell on your property, this coverage would protect you from the financial fallout of the lawsuit.
This coverage can help protect you if you’re accused of libel, slander, or false advertising.
Provides protection against identity theft and threat incidents that would put personal information at risk. Typically includes credit monitoring, dark web scans, and recovery services if your information is jeopardized.

What is Spa Insurance?
You can think of spa liability insurance as a safety net for your money and career. Though you may never face a lawsuit over your career, it could be life-changing if you do. While you certainly could go without a safety net, this could put you in a financially vulnerable situation if something goes wrong. Without spa insurance coverage, you could be solely responsible for paying the costs of a claim against you.
Insurance for spa professionals protects you from the liability, or risk, of having to cover claim expenses yourself. With MMIP, our insurance covers the two biggest forms of liability (professional & general), and also a slew of other professional risks. Our members can rest assured they are covered from all sides.
Massage Therapy Insurance Glossary of Terms
Liabilities are the reason you need insurance. These things could go wrong and cause harm to another person. As a massage therapist, a liability typically involves a risk to your clients in some way. You can think of a liability as something for which you could be sued. There are different types of liabilities that require specific coverage. (We’ll cover more on that later).
A professional liability is a risk that comes from your specific occupation. This type of liability is commonly known as “malpractice” or “errors and omissions” liability. As a professional massage therapist, you have a duty of care to your clients. When you make a mistake or forget to do something that results in your client’s harm, that is a professional liability. A professional liability implies that there is an active party at fault, either through commission or omission.
General liability is not specifically related to your profession and can happen in any industry. These are risks that may cause harm or physical distress through lack of care, poor environments, or non-specific hazards to your clients. General liability is often called “slip and fall” liability, as these are common incidents.
An aggregate is the coverage amount that a massage liability insurance policy offers. This figure is the maximum amount that an insurance policy will cover for its policyholders. Typically, the aggregate is in yearly increments, so the policyholder can know how much coverage they will have annually.
This is the coverage limit for each incident. Should you have multiple incidents in a year, each occurrence will have a set limit for how much the insurance company will cover.
This one is a little tricky. Occurrence form coverage means that your policy provides liability coverage for incidents that occur during the policy term. Even if a client files a claim after the policy is no longer active, you would still be eligible for coverage if the incident occurred within the policy term. Occurrence form coverage is the opposite of claims-made insurance, which only covers you if the incident occurs AND the claim is filed during the insurance policy term.
Benefits of Our Insurance Plans For Spa Professionals
With any purchase, we expect to receive clear benefits. Spa insurance is no different, but the advantages can vary greatly between providers. To help, we’ve broken down the key benefits of spa insurance coverage into three categories:
Liability Protection
The most critical aspect of any spa liability insurance plan is protection from liability. Accidents happen unexpectedly—a client tripping on an area rug, for example, could lead to a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against your spa practice. Having general and professional liability protection with strong policy limits ensures you’re covered when legally obligated to pay damages.
Additional Risk Mitigation
Comprehensive insurance goes beyond major liabilities to address everyday risks. MMIP’s spa insurance coverage includes medical expenses, lost wages, and identity theft recovery. It also covers specific services, like hot stone massage, which carry unique risks. This ensures you’re fully protected, even when legally obligated to handle unforeseen claims.
Member Benefits
The most appreciated part of a plan is its member benefits, which maximize your investment. Not every policy offers substantial perks, and some make it hard to understand what’s included. MMIP clearly outlines benefits, offering members industry-exclusive discounts valued at over $1,800, including 50 hours of free continuing education, and specialized coverage for hot stone massage.
Choosing the Best Insurance Plan
Choosing the right plan means balancing coverage, benefits, and pricing to find the best fit. That’s why we’ve created this guide to help you evaluate the top programs and choose the best one for your spa practice.
