How do I add an additional insured to my policy?
You can add an additional insured to your policy at any time. Click here to request an additional insured to be added or call us.
Can I add my spouse or employees to my insurance policy?
No, MMIP offers an individual massage therapist insurance program, and each licensed practitioner is responsible for his or her own policy.
Why can't my policy be put in my business' name?
This is a personal liability insurance policy so it must be in the practitioner’s name but, as a sole proprietor, your business name is also covered. If you have a corporation or partnership, your business may be added as an additional insured.
What does my massage liability insurance not cover?
Your MMIP policy does not cover invasive practices, such as acupuncture, colonic educators or herbal counseling. This policy also does not cover the use of T-bars, charges of sexual harassment or the transmission of HIV or a STD.
What should I do if I have a claim?
To place a claim, call MMIP at 1-800-222-1110 to report the event as soon as possible. We will immediately mail you a claim form.
After I have stopped practicing, am I still covered?
As long as your policy was in effect at the time of the incident, you are covered under our policy. MMIP offers occurrence form coverage, meaning you are still covered for claims filed after your policy expires, as long as the incident in question occurred during your policy term. Let’s say your policy with MMIP expires on Jan. 31, for example, and you do not renew because you’re no longer in practice. You will still be covered for any claim filed after Jan. 31, as long as the incident happened when you were insured (on or before Jan. 31).
If I lose my confirmation of coverage, what do I do?
Your confirmation of coverage is your proof that you have liability coverage with MMIP. If you misplace it, just call us and we will mail you a copy, free of charge. We urge our clients to keep this document in a secure place with their other important documents.
Can I ever cancel my insurance and get a refund?
As you are instantly enrolled into the MMIP system, and your certificate is emailed to you immediately, there will be no refunds from our policy.
How soon will my coverage take effect?
Your coverage with MMIP goes into effect immediately. If you apply online or by phone, you will be emailed your certificate of insurance within minutes of completing the application.
Where am I covered?
Your MASSAGE Magazine Insurance Plus insurance policy covers you in all 50 United States. US territories, such as Puerto Rico, are not included in the coverage. Countries outside of the United States, such as Canada, are also not included.
*For customers in the state of Indiana professional liability limits are increased to $2 million per occurrence and $6 million individual annual aggregate for massage therapy services only; General liability limits are increased to $2 million per occurrence and $8 million individual annual aggregate for massage therapy services only.
What is an additional insured?
Sometimes, your employer or landlord will require you to add them as an additional insured. In doing so, you are giving that person or entity legal claim on the benefits paid under the general liability portion of your policy to the extent they suffer a loss.
Do I have to pay to add my employer as an additional insured?
Yes, the cost is $10 per additional insured.
Does my policy cover me as an instructor?
Yes. As long as the modality that you teach is covered under our policy, the teaching of that modality is also covered.
Is there a limit on class size?
No, there is no limit on class size or the number of hours you teach.
Is there an extra charge for practicing more than one modality?
No, a single MMIP policy covers more than 350 modalities, which are listed here. You do not need to purchase additional policies or add-ons for additional modalities.
What should I do if I don't see my modality listed?
Call us at 1-800-222-1110. We will send information about your modality to our underwriters, and they will let us know if we are able to cover it. If so, we will add it to the list of modalities covered on our website.
Does my policy cover medical expenses?
Yes, medical expenses are included in your liability coverage. You may notice that there is no limit assigned to these expenses on your certificate of insurance. This is because medical expenses are covered by your general liability insurance, and included in your policy limits of $2 million per occurrence and $3 million individual annual aggregate.
What does the identity protection plan provide?

Do you offer a Business Operations Policy (BOP)?

What is the difference between Professional Liability Insurance and Business Owners Policy Insurance?
Professional liability insurance covers your business, as a sole practitioner, against claims about a service you provided that may have resulted in a client suffering financial or physical harm due to a mistake you made or service you failed to perform. A business owners policy combines business liability insurance and business property into one single policy covering multiple professionals. BOP insurance helps cover your business from claims resulting from theft, fire, or other covered disasters, in addition, you are covered for employment practices liability, and data compromise.
Glossary of Insurance Terms
Additional insureds are businesses, people, or some other entity that gets added to a primary insured’s policy, usually through endorsement. Additional insured provides protection for the added party in the case of a negligent act from the primary insured. Find out more about our coverage options.
This is the total dollar limit of all claims that can be filed under a policy within a given term. With MMIP, our policies come with a stout $3 million individual annual aggregate, meaning we will pay up to $3 million for all claims filed during the policy’s term.
A broker helps to match individuals or businesses to carriers. As opposed to an insurance agent that works for a set carrier, brokers help their clients find the carrier with the best policy to meet their unique circumstances and can usually negotiate better rates.
Claims Made Policy
A claims made policy only covers events that are filed while the policy is still in effect. After a policy is expired, claims usually will not be covered. So if your claims-made policy expires on December 31st and then a few weeks later a client asserts that your treatment back in December caused them harm in some way, you’ll more than likely be left paying this claim out-of-pocket. This is the amount that an insured has to pay on a claim before their insurance kicks in. Learn more.
General Liability Insurance
Often referred to as “slip and fall insurance” this type of insurance provides protection to the insured for injuries and property damage. For example, a client may walk into your place of business and trip over a loose rug and injure themselves. This type of claim would be covered under the provisions of your general liability insurance.
Identity Theft Protection
Provides protection against identity theft and threat incidents that would put personal information at risk. Typically includes credit monitoring, dark web scans, and recovery services if your information is jeopardized.
Individual Aggregate Limit
An individual aggregate is the total coverage available for all the claims filed by one individual policyholder within a given term limit.
Occurrence Form Policy
With occurrence form policies, any claim event that occurs while a policy is still active is still covered, no matter if the claim is filed after policy expiration. This important consideration is built-in to all of our policies. Especially in the health and wellness fields, a claim for injuries may take months to manifest. Product Liability Insurance
Covers the insured in the event a product used during the session causes injury or damage such as causing a severe allergic reaction that requires medical treatment.
Professional Liability Insurance
Also known as “malpractice insurance” this insurance coverage is for claims for injuries or damages that arise as a result of providing your services. Learn more.
The actual event that causes an insurance claim to be covered under the provisions of the insured’s policy.
Rental Damage Insurance
Provides coverage for accidental damages that occur to a space that’s rented by a policyholder. Our rental damage insurance provision provides up to $100,000 for damages to a rented space. Contact us to learn more.
Shared Aggregate Limit
This is the total that will be paid out for a group of individuals that are covered under the same policy. Rather than having individual limits for each person, the group shares one, combined limit for all claims arising during a given term.
Stolen Equipment Insurance
This provides protection for vital equipment that’s stolen or damaged with certain exclusions that may apply. Knowing how important equipment is to our members’ ability to provide services, our policies come with $1,000 worth of coverage with just a $250 deductible.
