How soon will my coverage take effect?
Your coverage with MMIP goes into effect immediately. If you apply online or by phone, you will be emailed your certificate of insurance within minutes of completing the application.
Where am I covered?
Your MASSAGE Magazine Insurance Plus insurance policy covers you in all 50 United States. US territories, such as Puerto Rico, are not included in the coverage. Countries outside of the United States, such as Canada, are also not included.
Customers in Indiana get higher professional liability limits. They are $2 million per occurrence and $6 million per year. This is for massage therapy services only. They also get higher general liability limits. They are $2 million per occurrence and $8 million per year. This is for massage therapy services only.
What is an additional insured?
Additional insureds are typically employers, landlords, or event organizers. When you add an additional insured to your policy, you extend your coverage to them. This happens if a claim against you also affects the additional insured.
Do I have to pay to add my employer as an additional insured?
Yes, the cost is $10 per additional insured.
Does my policy cover me as an instructor?
Yes. As long as the modality that you teach is covered under our policy, teaching that modality is also covered.
Is there a limit on class size?
No, there is no limit on class size or the number of hours you teach.
Is there an extra charge for practicing more than one modality?
No, a single MMIP policy covers more than 500 modalities, which are listed on our website. You do not need to purchase additional policies or add-ons for additional modalities.
What should I do if I don’t see my modality listed?
As long as the method is not excluded, and you comply with your state and license rules, your beauty and bodywork career is covered. Equally, it’s best to be sure so speak with us to get a definitive answer.
Client-Based Issues:
What should I do if a client files a complaint or threatens legal action?
Immediately contact MMIP at (866) 455-5040 to report the incident. We will guide you through the process of filing a claim and provide the necessary support.
Does my policy cover legal defense costs if I am sued by a client?
Yes, your insurance for massage therapists covers legal defense costs. It applies if a claim is filed against you.
Are independent contractors covered under my policy?
No, each practitioner must have their own individual massage therapist insurance policy. Independent contractors cannot be added to your policy.
What should I do if I have a claim?
To place a claim, call MMIP at (866) 455-5040 to report the event as soon as possible. We will immediately mail you a claim form.
After I have stopped practicing, am I still covered?
As long as your policy was in effect at the time of the incident, you are covered under our policy. MMIP offers occurrence form coverage. You are still covered for claims filed after your policy expires as long as the incident occurred during your policy term. Let’s say your policy with MMIP expires on Jan. 31, for example, and you do not renew because you’re no longer in practice. You will still be covered for any claim filed after Jan. 31 as long as the incident happened when you were insured (on or before Jan. 31).
If I lose my confirmation of coverage, what do I do?
Your confirmation of coverage is proof that you have liability coverage with MMIP. If you misplace it, just call us, and we will mail you a copy free of charge. We urge our clients to keep this document secure, along with their other important documents.
Can I ever cancel my insurance and get a refund?
As you are instantly enrolled into the MMIP system, and your certificate is emailed to you immediately, there will be no refunds from our policy.
Legalities:
What are the policy limits for massage therapist liability insurance?
The standard policy limits are $2 million per occurrence and $3 million annual aggregate.
What happens if I let my policy lapse?
If your policy lapses, you will no longer have coverage for any incidents that occur after the lapse date. It is crucial to renew your policy on time to maintain continuous coverage.

MMIP respects the privacy of its clients. It believes protecting their privacy is a big responsibility. In acknowledgment of its duties, MMIP has adopted the following Privacy Policy. The policy applies to the consumer data that it gets in its business.
